International Workshop on ESG Integration in Global Finance: Strategies and Challenges
The Finance and Banking Department, Faculty of Administrative Sciences and Economics at Tishk International University (TIU) successfully hosted an International Workshop on Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Integration in Global Finance: Strategies and Challenges, held on December 12th, 2023. The workshop aimed to provide insights into the evolving landscape of sustainable finance and the integration of ESG considerations in global financial strategies. The event was attended by various students and staff across the university.
The workshop commenced with an illuminating keynote address by Prof. Dr. İrge Şener, Head of The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Türkiye, and also a faculty member of Cankaya University, Türkiye. Prof. Şener‘s presentation, titled “The Strategies and Challenges of ESG Financing,” highlighted the growing importance of ESG factors in investment decisions, as well as the strategies for aligning financial goals with sustainable practices. The keynote address offered valuable insights into the challenges faced by financial institutions and businesses in navigating the complexities of ESG integration.
Following the keynote address, the workshop featured a second presentation by Dr. Abubakar Karaye the Head of the Finance and Banking Department, who delved into the topic of “Embracing a Sustainable Future: ESG and Sustainability Finance.” The Dr. Karaye provided a forward-looking perspective on the role of ESG considerations in shaping a sustainable financial future. The session explored the practical applications of sustainability finance, shedding light on how businesses can leverage ESG principles to contribute positively to environmental and social outcomes.
The workshop also included engaging panel discussions and interactive sessions where participants had the opportunity to share experiences, discuss challenges, and explore collaborative solutions. Diverse perspectives from industry experts, academics, and practitioners enriched the dialogue on ESG integration.
After the panel discussions, Dr. Abubakar Karaye, along with Prof. Hassan Al-Delfi, Prof. Ghousia Khatoon, Dr. Hussaini Bala, Dr. Armayau Sani and Dr. Basiru Musa, presented certificates to the organizing committee for their valuable contributions. The workshop was concluded with a vote of thanks and closing remarks by Ms. Thikra Mohammed.
