Training on Entrepreneurship and Career Development
On 20th May 2026, the Banking & Finance and Accounting Departments successfully organized a training session on Entrepreneurship and Career Development for Grade 3 Students. The training was delivered by Prof. Dr. Ghousia Khatoon, who provided students with practical knowledge and valuable insights into entrepreneurship, business development, and career readiness. The Session was bifurcated into three sessions.
The First Session commenced with an introduction to entrepreneurship, where students learned about the meaning and importance of entrepreneurship in today’s economy. Prof. Dr. Ghousia Khatoon discussed the entrepreneurial mindset and explained the different types of entrepreneurships. She also highlighted the key differences between Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and startups, enabling students to understand the characteristics and objectives of each business model. To inspire the participants, the session began with examples of internationally recognized entrepreneurs and their entrepreneurial journeys.
The second chapter focused on Opportunity Recognition. Students explored the concept of a business opportunity and learned how entrepreneurs identify and evaluate promising ideas. The trainer introduced the SCAMPER Method, explaining each component of the tool in detail and demonstrating its application through practical examples. Students actively participated in exercises designed to strengthen their creative thinking and opportunity-recognition skills.
The third chapter covered Market Research and Feasibility Study, emphasizing the importance of understanding customer needs, market demand, and business viability before launching a venture. As part of the practical learning experience, students participated in a group activity involving a SWOT Analysis of Kurdistan Tourism. Working in teams, they analyzed the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats related to the tourism sector in the Kurdistan Region and presented their findings.
The Second Session focused on fourth chapter, wherein Prof. Dr. Ghousia Khatoon introduced the Business Model Canvas as an effective tool for designing and developing business models. Through a detailed visual example, students learned about the key components of the canvas, including customer segments, value propositions, channels, customer relationships, revenue streams, key resources, key activities, key partnerships, and cost structures. The fifth chapter focused on Financial Planning, where students gained an understanding of budgeting, financial forecasting, cost estimation, and the financial considerations necessary for establishing and sustaining a business venture. The sixth chapter addressed Marketing and Branding Strategies. Students learned about the importance of creating a strong brand identity, understanding target markets, and developing effective marketing strategies to promote products and services successfully. The seventh chapter explored Fundraising and Pitching to Investors. The trainer discussed various sources of funding available to entrepreneurs and explained how to prepare and deliver effective business pitches to attract potential investors and secure financial support.
The Third Session concentrated on final chapter which laid emphasis on Launching and Managing a Startup. Students were introduced to the key stages involved in transforming an idea into a functioning business and learned about the challenges and responsibilities associated with managing a startup effectively. In addition to the entrepreneurship topics, Prof. Dr. Ghousia Khatoon delivered valuable guidance on the essential skills required for employment and career success. She emphasized the importance of communication, teamwork, problem-solving, adaptability, leadership, and continuous learning in today’s competitive job market.
The training session was highly interactive and engaging, combining theoretical knowledge with practical activities that encouraged student participation and critical thinking. The event provided students with valuable entrepreneurial insights and practical skills that will support their academic development, future careers, and potential entrepreneurial ventures.
