Business and Management Field trip to Havin Group
On the 21st of May, 3rd grade students in the Business and Management Department, Faculty of Administrative Sciences and Economics at Tishk International University went on a field trip to 4 factories owned by Havin Group in Erbil. The students gathered at the university, and the department arranged transportation through two large buses. Eighty students attended, and three staff members, Dr. Sultana Begum, Mr. Kadhim Saeed, and Mr. Omar Falah, also joined the event.
The purpose of the trip was to provide students with a practical understanding of various industries by visiting four different factories: a tissue factory, a plastic bag factory, a packing factory, and a recycling factory. This field trip offered a valuable opportunity for students to observe the inner workings of these factories, interact with the owners, and gain insights into the operational aspects of different manufacturing processes.
During the field trip, the students actively engaged in the learning experience by asking questions to the owners and employees of each of the four factories, located at Havin Group on Kasnazan Road. This interaction allowed them to gain a deeper understanding of the origins of the everyday products they use. By witnessing firsthand how each factory operated, the students were able to connect theoretical concepts learned in the classroom with real-world applications.
The visit to the tissue factory showcased the machines involved in tissue production. Students witnessed the transformation of a large roll of tissue material into folded and cut pieces of tissue, which were then packaged into the familiar tissue boxes we encounter every day. At the plastic bag factory, students observed the manufacturing process, starting from the cutting of plastic to the final packaging. They were introduced to the different types of plastic bags produced and learned about the importance of product customization to meet client requirements. The visit to the packing factory allowed students to witness the transformation of raw materials into packaging and the printing of client logos, such as the B2B logo, on the packaging. The last visit was to the recycling company, where they witnessed the conversion of waste materials into usable raw materials, which were then transformed into waste pipes.
Overall, the field trip proved to be a valuable experience for the third-grade students of the Business and Management Department. It bridged the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application by providing them with an inside look at different factories. The opportunity to ask questions and engage with the factory owners deepened their understanding of the industries. Such practical experiences significantly contribute to the development of well-rounded business and management professionals.
