In a field visit organized by the Department of International Relations and Diplomacy at Tishk International University, students and staff of the department visited the United Nations compound in Erbil.

The visit took place on 25th April 2018 where a selected number of students were received by the United Nations Assistance Missions in Iraq (UNAMI) at their office in Erbil and attended a short workshop organized to introduce the student to the UNAMI in Iraq and the KRI. Students were introduced to the main sections of the UNAMI including, the Political Affairs Office, the Human Rights Office and the Public Information Office. At the beginning, Dr Rashwan Salih, the Public Information Officer at UNAMI-Erbil introduced the head of UNAMI mission in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, Mr. Ricardo Rodriguez and his team.  Mr. Rodriguez, then gave a detailed presentation in which he introduced the UN in general and in particular the UNAMI covering a short history of the mission, the structure, the role it plays in Iraq and the KRI and its major contribution to the political, human rights and humanitarian fields in the Region. Mr Bedredin Shutta Mahmoud, the Political Affairs Officer gave a short presentation in which he explained the role of UNAMI’s political affairs in general including its positive role in assisting major political actors in the region in maintaining democratic political participation and political conduct in the Region. Mr Zito Syani, the Head of the Human Rights Office, delivered a constructive and interactive presentation on the role played by the Human Rights Office, the achievements, challenges and major human rights issue in the Region. All three presentations were followed by constructive Q & A session and discussions. At the end of the visit, students had a tour inside the UN compound and where introduced to some major UN agencies that operate in Iraq and the KRI.
