On October 8th, 2024, the International Relations and Diplomacy (IRD) Department, under the Faculty of Administrative Sciences and Economics (FASE) at Tishk International University (TIU), participated in the 6th International Conference on Accounting, Business, Economics and Politics (ICABEP2024). The conference, which ran from October 8th-9th, 2024, was themed: “United Nations Sustainable Development Goals: Synergizing Accounting, Business, Economics, Entrepreneurship and Politics.” The primary goal of the conference was to enhance the spread of knowledge on the strategic importance of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and to encourage local, regional, and international state and non-state actors to come together and discuss necessary strategies for achieving the SDGs by the target year of 2030. The opening ceremony, physical keynote speeches, and parallel sessions were held on day one, while online keynote speeches and sessions took place on day two.
Conference Organization and Engagement
The conference was organized by the Faculty of Administrative Sciences and Economics (FASE) and was moderated by Dr. Abdullah Nabeel. The welcome address was given by Asst. Prof. Dr. Idris Hadi, the Head of the Board of Trustees of Tishk International University, while the opening address was delivered by the Co-chair of the conference, Dr. Mohammad Salih Mustafa, Head of the International Relations and Diplomacy Department. The event was well-attended by a wide array of local, regional, and international academics, policymakers, researchers, students, civil society organizations, and media practitioners.
Key Outcomes and SDG Focus
The conference enabled participants to gain a deeper understanding of the rationale behind the creation of the Sustainable Development Goals and the urgent need to collaborate toward achieving them. It highlighted their relevance in addressing pressing global challenges, including climate change, poverty, terrorism, wars, unemployment, inequality, and bad governance. The discussions helped attendees harvest innovative ideas and generate actionable recommendations for policymakers at local, regional, and international levels, reinforcing the vital role of academia in driving social and political progress.
