Diwan Director General Delivers Leader’s Talk on KRG Road Safety Vision at TIU
On December 6th, 2023, the International Relations and Diplomacy Department, Faculty of Administrative Sciences and Economics at Tishk International University (TIU) organized a Leader’s Talk titled: The KRG Road Safety Vision, delivered by Dr. Hemn Merany, Director General of Diwan, Ministry of Interior, Kurdistan Regional Government.
The Leaders Talk began with an opening remark by the Head of IRD Department, Dr. Mohammad Salih Mustafa, who introduced the speaker and dignitaries from the university, including the Head of the Board of Trustees, Asst. Prof. Dr. Idris Hadi Salih, President, Prof. Dr. Sultan T. Abu-Orabi, Academic Vice President, Asst. Prof. Dr. Mehmet Ozdemir, Research Center Director, Dr. Wasfi Kahwachi, and Vice Dean, Faculty of Administrative Sciences and Economics, Mr. Karwan Sherwani. Asst. Prof. Dr. Idris Hadi Salih delivered the welcome address.
The speaker, Dr. Hemn Merany delivered a rich presentation and shared insights on the Kurdistan Regional Government’s comprehensive road safety vision and strategy. He explained the legal framework upon which the KRG Road Safety Vision is predicated and the investment that KRG has been making in repairing and constructing roads, installing fixed, mobile, point-to-point speed cameras, and traffic lights throughout the Kurdistan Region for increased comfort of motorists and economic growth and development. He concluded by calling on all road users to abide by the existing traffic laws, while enjoining them to avoid drunk driving or Driving while Intoxicated (DWI) and using phones while driving. He also emphasized the need for ensuring enforcement of laws, so that offenders can be punished to server a major deterrent.
The Q & A session followed, where the speaker actively answered all the inquiries raised by participants, including TIU staff, students, members of the public, and media. Finally, a certificate of appreciation was given to the Diwan Director General, Dr. Hemn Merany by the Head of the Board of Trustees, Asst. Prof. Dr. Idris Hadi Salih.
