On December 16, 2024, the International Relations and Diplomacy (IRD) Department, led by its Head, Dr. Mohammad Salih Mustafa, proudly participated in the grand opening of the Korea Corner at Tishk International University (TIU). This vibrant new space, established in collaboration with the Korea Foundation, is dedicated to fostering cultural exchange and mutual understanding between Korea and the Kurdistan Region.
A Landmark for Cultural and Academic Ties
The event was graced by the presence of several distinguished guests, including Mr. Falah Mustafa, Special Assistant to the President of the Kurdistan Region for Foreign Policy Affairs; Mr. Seungcheol Lim, General Consulate of the Republic of Korea; Mr. Omed Khoshnaw, Erbil Governor; and Prof. Dr. Sultan T. Abu Orabi, President of TIU. The opening of the Korea Corner represents a significant milestone in cultural exchange, promising a future of strengthened ties and shared aspirations between the Kurdistan Region and Korea.
The Korea Corner, a symbol of this partnership, provides a platform for learning, cultural appreciation, and dialogue. Guests explored the thoughtfully curated space, which showcased the richness of Korean culture. Outdoor activities added a vibrant touch to the event, with a calligraphy booth by the Korea-Kurdistan Youth Association (KKYA), traditional Korean music, and a photo booth featuring Korean attire.
A Future of Shared Aspirations
This collaborative project demonstrates the university’s commitment to creating an international and dynamic academic environment. The Korea Corner will serve as a valuable resource for students and staff, promoting deeper understanding and opening new avenues for academic and professional collaboration with Korea. The IRD Department’s participation underscores its active role in fostering global connections and preparing students for careers in an interconnected world.
