73rd Anniversary of the Declaration of the Human Rights: Assessment of the Human Rights in the Kurdistan Region

On December 14th, 2021 the Department of International Relations and Diplomacy of the Faculty of Business and Administration at Tishk International University organized a symposium to commemorate the 73rd anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights: Assessment of the Human Rights in Kurdistan Region – Iraq.

The purpose of the symposium was to celebrate the anniversary of the universal declaration of human rights and also assess the situation of human rights in the Kurdistan Region. Further to this, the event aimed to raise awareness about timely and critical human rights issues in Iraq and to contribute in promoting Human Rights in Kurdistan.

The first speaker was Dr. Kameran Al Salihi, Professor of Law from Soran University. He highlighted the importance of the implementation of the law.

The second speaker was Dr. Sulaf Kakayi, and in her presentation, she talked about the rights of minorities in the Kurdistan Region, and also clarified how they have been mentioned in the Iraqi constitution.

The third speaker, Dr. Adnan Abdullah talked about the right to reach information internationally and explained the rights of obtaining information in the Iraqi constitution. He further discussed how these rights are developing and the extent of their implementation in the Kurdistan Region.

The session was followed by a Q&A discussion between the participants and the speakers.
