Departments of Accounting, Banking and Finance Holds its 1st Industrial Advisory Committee Meeting
On Monday, April 22nd 2024, the Departments of Accounting, Banking and Finance, Faculty of Administrative Sciences and Economics at Tishk International University (TIU) held its initial Industrial Advisory Committee meeting, attended by a distinguished group of academic leaders and industry experts. From the industry context, the meeting was attended by Dr. Samer Alssabagh, the CFO of Empire World in Erbil, Iraq, Mr. Sirwan Barwary, the Director of Deloitte in Erbil, Iraq, and Mr. Resit Kaya, the Accounting Manager of Das Food Industries in Erbil, Iraq. Conversely, the following individuals from TIU were in attendance: Dr. Fatih Cura, Vice President of the Faculty of Administrative Sciences and Economics, Dr. Karwan Sherwani, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Administrative and Social Sciences, Prof. Dr. Ghousia Khatoon, Head of the Accounting, Banking, and Finance Departments, Dr. Abubakar Karaye, Lecturer of Finance, Banking, and Accounting Departments, Committee Member, and Dr. Hussaini Bala, Assistant Professor of Accounting, Banking, and Finance Departments.
The primary goal of the meeting was to establish a connection between academia and industry by collecting perspectives from experienced professionals in the field. The meeting was chaired by Dr. Ghousia Khatoon, who facilitated discussions with the objective of improving the Accounting Department’s curriculum in accordance with industry standards. She informed the panel of industry experts about the department’s vision, mission, objectives, and the learning outcomes of the programme. She placed a strong emphasis on the importance of collaborations, including the delivery of guest lectures, national and international workshops by industry experts, industrial visits, internships, and placements. The Banking and Finance Department curriculum was presented by Dr. Abubakar Karaye, who also facilitated the discussions on the curriculum’s alignment with the demands of the finance industry. Financial Accounting 1 and 2 and Banking Operations are the courses that were extensively discussed.
Industry experts provided invaluable recommendations for curriculum improvement, resulting in a highly productive meeting. The skills and knowledge that graduates must possess in order to succeed in the ever-changing field of Accounting, Banking, and Finance are illuminated by the insights obtained from Dr. Samer Alssabagh, Mr. Sirwan Barwary, and Mr. Resit Kaya. The curriculum enhancements that are intended to better prepare students for successful careers in Accounting, Banking, and Finance will be informed by the recommendations provided by industry experts. The relevance and effectiveness of educational programmes in meeting the evolving needs of the financial sector will be ensured by the continued collaboration between academia and industry. Moving forward, this will continue to be essential. The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks from Dr. Karwan Sherwani, Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Administrative Sciences and Economics, and appreciation and vice-presidential remarks from Dr. Fatih Cura, Vice President of the Faculty of Administrative Sciences and Economics.
