This research investigates the impact of terrorism on the state of Iraq, as this country has suffered from many forms of extremist terrorism on several separate stages, the most important of which is the terrorism of ISIS (the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant), where the researcher focuses on the period of the emergence of this organization until its end, which extends from 2014 to 2017, because during this period Iraq witnessed many unprecedented terrorist practices in the contemporary history of Iraq, in addition to the violations that shook the world.

The research aims to study the effects of the emergence of ISIS on the Iraqi national security, given the wide geographical areas that it controlled and the dangers, crimes and violations suffered by the Iraqi people with all its components.

One of the main reasons that made the researcher choose ISIS as a case study is the exceptional nature of this organization in terms of strength, terrorist practices, long-term plans that the organization worked to achieve and its threat to Iraqi national security in an unprecedented way, as the danger of this organization necessitated the formation of an international coalition consisting of More than a hundred countries around the world to control the rapid expansion of this region and stop the wheel of its power. The researcher relied on the statements of officials concerned with this disaster that occurred between 2014 and 2017, from Iraqi and non-Iraqi officials, in addition to the statistics of monitoring centers, international and local news agencies, research centers specialized in this matter, human rights committees, and studies that have been carried out by Global Terror Control Centers. The researcher explains in the findings the catastrophic consequences of the emergence of this organization in Iraq, and its impact on the Iraqi national security, explaining this in details and figures, as he mentions the number of victims who lost their lives and were affected at the psychological and humanitarian level in an approximation to clarify the size of the disaster and the Iraqi national security situation, which has reached its lowest state In the three years in which the organization remained active and strong until its defeat.
