First Class Representative Meeting of 2022-2023

On the 19th of October, Dr. Hamdi Serin held a meeting at Tishk International University with the Faculty of Administrative Sciences and Economics class representatives and all the research assistants of the faculty. The main goal of the meeting was to elect the departmental and faculty representatives by letting the class representatives vote in a democratic way.

At the beginning of the meeting, Dr. Hamdi Serin gave a speech about the responsibilities of the positions they are being elected for and how important their roles will be. Dr. Hamdi Serin also showed everyone the representative chart, which displays the hierarchy of the different positions from class representative to departmental representative to a faculty representative. He also explained that there would be multiple meetings, some with all the class representatives and some with only the departmental representatives.

After the explanation and after everyone understood all the terms and conditions, they started voting. They started with the Business and Management Department, there were some volunteers, so it went to a vote, after which Mubin Mahdi won and became the departmental representative. The same vote went for Accounting Department, where Karzan Muhammed received the most votes. In Banking and Finance Department, Halez Ali won, and Rosy Ismail became the representative for the International Relations and Diplomacy Department.

After the departmental representatives were chosen, the discussion shifted towards electing the faculty representative. Two students volunteered for this position, Ahmed Farhad from the Business and Management Department and Hevi Khano from the Accounting Department. To give both a fair and equal chance, one was asked to go out of the room so the other volunteer could share a speech to try and persuade the members to vote. After the first candidate was done with his address, he left the room, and the other candidate was given a chance also to give a speech. Then both Ahmed Farhad and Hevi Khano left the room, and the members discussed the better choice.

Both gave excellent speeches and had solid points and ambitions to improve the university and student’s life. All members then voted anonymously by writing their choice on paper. It was a close vote, but in the end, Hevi Khano received more votes and became the faculty representative. He was congratulated, and Hevi thanked everyone who voted for him. The main reason people voted for him is that he promised to solve an issue that a lot of grade four students have with their theses; he had an excellent solution to the current problem and mentioned how he would attempt to overcome this problem, which many of the members were impressed by and were looking forward to seeing this issue is solved.

After all the elections, plans and events were discussed by Dr. Hamdi Serin with the newly chosen representatives. They were aware of their new responsibilities and what it means to be a departmental or faculty representative. Afterwards, all members were invited to lunch together, which the university provided.

The Faculty of Administrative Sciences and Economics initially launched with the Department of Business and Management amid the establishment of Tishk International University in 2008. Three additional departments were formed in 2014-2015: Accounting Department, Banking and Finance Department, and the International Relations and Diplomacy Department.

Currently, our faculty is ranked as the most demanded faculty of the university, comprising the highest number of students. This is highly accredited to how efficiently our students are equipped with the highest standards of knowledge and soft and hard employability skills required to fill the market gap and prepare the best graduates, an essential element for national development and prosperity.
