On June 23, 2025, in a mission to create healthier and safer learning environments, students from the Interpersonal Dynamics and Character Building (IDCB) course at Tishk International University (TIU) successfully completed a community-focused project titled “Providing Clean Water to Laya School.”

Motivated by the importance of water access in education, the students organized a clean water donation and sanitation drive for Laya Basic School, located on the outskirts of Erbil. Their effort addressed the urgent need for clean drinking water and proper hygiene infrastructure at the school—conditions often taken for granted in more urbanized areas.

Upon visiting the school, students learned that children were relying on outdated or unsafe water systems, with many reporting health problems due to poor sanitation. The team immediately decided to intervene with practical support and a sustainable mindset.

Through on-campus fundraising and small sponsorships, the students purchased water filters, large refillable water tanks, and hygiene supplies such as hand soap, sanitizers, and cups.

“Clean water isn’t just about thirst—it’s about dignity, health, and learning,” said project member Hero. “No child should have to choose between staying hydrated and staying safe.”

The students also launched a hygiene awareness campaign during their visit. They delivered short, engaging presentations to the schoolchildren on how to wash hands properly, avoid drinking unsafe water, and maintain clean containers.

Colorful posters and stickers created by the university students were handed out and placed around the school, turning the learning experience into something fun and memorable.
