National Workshop on Financial Services, Financial Inclusion, Roles and Responsibilities

In collaboration with the Department of Banking and Finance and the Department of Computer Engineering, the Accounting Department, Faculty of Administrative Sciences at Tishk International University conducted a National Workshop on Financial Services, Financial Inclusion, Roles and Responsibilities, held on March 30th, 2022.

Mr. Bayar Shahab, Ph.D., Business Development Manager at NassWallet Digital Banking, Erbil participated as the main speaker of the workshop.  Mr. Bayar received his PhD. from the University of Rome Tor Vergata, Italy is an entrepreneur with 7+ years of experience in the Banking and FinTech industry, and has provided technical consultancy, training delivery, and project management for several organizations and businesses.

The workshop covered the insight into Iraq’s banking and finances, available payment service providers, payment methods, issues, and challenges in banking. He focused on financial services, financial inclusion, the role and responsibilities of the central bank, mobile money payment service providers, and related topics.

Mr. Bayar Shahab explained his company’s products such as NassWallet, which is created to provide greater financial access to the people of Iraq to encourage the leap from cash to a cashless society. NassWallet is a digital banking system developed for a new era – providing services such as money transfer, business services, merchant payment, salary and bulk disbursement, bill payment, loyalty and rewards, Mastercard, and other services.

The national workshop aimed to introduce the benefits of digital banking and payment systems, and explain the goodwill of financial products in Iraq and Kurdistan markets. Consumers can easily apply electronic payment systems and encourage the government to begin investments in the financial and e-commerce industry. The workshop also covered the payment industry in Iraq and discussed its growth and popularity in the country during the last couple of years. Statistical research indicates a higher number of bank account holders, eWallets, ATMs, banks, POSs, and financial institutions amongst individuals and companies in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.
