On Tuesday, November 26, 2024, the Departments of Accounting, Business Management, and Banking and Finance at Tishk International University (TIU) successfully hosted an International Workshop titled, “The Role of Corporate Governance and Stakeholders in Driving Organizational Success and Advancing Sustainable Development Goals.” The event brought together faculty, students, and industry professionals.

The workshop commenced with opening remarks by Dr. Abubakar Karaye, Head of the Accounting, Banking, and Finance Departments. The highlight was a presentation by Professor Amon Chizema, a distinguished expert from Loughborough University in England. Professor Chizema provided deep insights into how various stakeholders—including employees, customers, and regulators—are increasingly demanding accountability and transparency from corporations. He explained that aligning corporate strategies with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), is crucial for long-term success and for building trust.

Following the presentation, an interactive Q&A session allowed attendees to discuss balancing profit with sustainability, overcoming stakeholder management challenges, and real-world examples of successful governance models. The event concluded with Dr. Fatih Cura, the vice president of Admin and Finance at TIU, presenting a certificate to Professor Chizema, followed by a vote of thanks and closing remarks.

The Departments of Accounting, Management, and Banking and Finance extended their gratitude to Professor Chizema and all participants for their active engagement, noting that the workshop enriched understanding and reinforced the importance of aligning business with sustainable development.
