As part of their commitment to civic engagement and moral growth, students from the Interpersonal Dynamics and Character Building (IDCB) course at Tishk International University (TIU) carried out a moving initiative titled “Sharing Kindness: Food for Local Workers.”
Conducted on May 14, 2025, this thoughtful and heartwarming project involved preparing and distributing homemade meals and care packages to municipal workers, janitors, street cleaners, and laborers in Erbil—many of whom work long hours under difficult conditions with little public recognition.
This project was designed not only as a charitable act, but as a gesture of gratitude and human acknowledgment for those who keep the city clean, functioning, and safe.
Students cooked and packed over 100 fresh meals including rice, stew, bread, and fruit. The meals were distributed across various public areas, such as parks, construction sites, and main roads.
What made this initiative especially impactful was the students’ choice to serve the food personally, approaching workers with kindness and sincerity. They greeted each person, offered the meals with a smile, and shared brief conversations, asking about their work and well-being.
Many workers were visibly moved, not only by the gesture but by the fact that young people took time to recognize them.
