Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Seminar
The first seminar of the 7 series training course called soft skills empowerment training course took place on the 9th of November. The students of the Faculty of Administrative Sciences and Economics are all invited to partake in this training course, you can sign up by scanning the QR Code on the posters that are hung on the wall on the 4th floor and if you attend 5 out of the 7 seminars, you will receive a certificate of participation.
The first seminar was about gender-based violence also known as GBV, the speaker of this seminar was Mr. Bayad Sarwar, who is also a research assistant for the International Relations and Diplomacy Department. Mr. Bayad Sarwar talked about GBV, which is the act of violence being directed at another person because of their gender. The types of GBV include physical harm, sexual harm, psychological harm, or economic harm. Mr. Bayad also mentioned some statistics, for example how 22% of all women who have had a partner have experienced domestic violence, and 45% – 55% of all women in the EU have experienced sexual harassment, which are all parts of GBV. Forced Marriage is also another form of gender-based violence which is when a marriage is concluded by force or done before reaching the minimum age for marriage.
Mr. Bayad Sarwar concluded the seminar by mentioning some examples of GBV, the reasons for them and solutions, which all enhanced the participants’ knowledge on the subject. He pointed out that awareness is the first step to stopping GBV.
